Storyboarding my Short Film

Self-Portrait Fun!

Homework assignment: Create a self portrait using the most professional equipment you can get your hands on. Check. My school provides us with a "storefront" where we can check out some rather high end equipment that I could never get my hands on with my current allowance, no matter how much milk money I save. The camera, tripod, and microphone are mine, but the lights aren't. The check-out process was really easy here; just go online, select what you want to check and for what time, then pick up the equipment. I still have yet to return these lights, but I'm sure the process would be fairly simple. Thanks to some experience with professional lighting from the couple times I went to Film Camp, I had a good idea as to how I wanted to set up my lights: a soft, diffused/spread out light towards my back (the light with the umbrella) and a stronger, harsher light facing my front. This creates a balance of light, something I seriously needed since I had a

What to Watch/Read/Play After "Stranger Things"

So you've finished binge-watching the first season of Netflix's Stranger Things , which felt like the love child of 80's Stephen King and Steven Spielberg, keeping your full attention throughout its current 8-episode run. Now you have to wait probably an entire year until the most-likely-to-be-happening second season appears. What do you do to pass the time? I've compiled a short list here to help with that insatiable hunger of a movie to watch, a book to read, and a video game to play. #1 Watch - Super 8 Easily one of my favorite movies, Super 8  follows the tale of a group of kids trying to put together a short film with an 8mm camera (hence the title). However, when they're in the middle of filming a scene by a railroad, a train passes by and wrecks right next to them, releasing a monster that silently threatens the town. The kids are trying to solve the mystery, as well as the sheriff, and the government has come in to intervene. Sound familiar? Th

What Studios Should and Shouldn't Learn from "Deadpool"

Considering 20th Century Fox's latest hit, Deadpool , is now the highest grossing R-rated movie in the history of film, it's only natural for it to cause some speculation towards big-time producers. "What if," they're probably thinking, "we make more movies like Deadpool? " Please don't. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every minute of Deadpool  and I'm not even a fan of R-rated comedies, but making more movies like Deadpool  isn't the same as having another Deadpool . I can predict we're going to see some trailers in the coming months with foul-mouthed characters breaking the fourth wall or causing an obscene amount of violence. The problem is, though, is that what those creators are doing are just ripping off of Deadpool . And this is only one of the list of outcomes that might happen in the near-future because of Deadpool 's fame. If studios get the wrong idea, they may think that they should make more R-rated superhero

Mind Games (A New Book by Me!)

Hey everyone! I have a new book coming to Amazon Kindle on February 2, 2016! Keep on reading to see the cover, what it's about, and a bit of the creation behind it! Look Ma, I'm on a cover! Mark Whelms P.I. is a series I'm developing which might end up becoming 6-8 books depending on how I adapt the outline of the series. Mind Games , the first book, follows 18 year old Mark Whelms on his first day of becoming a private investigator. Luck hits him as his first case comes in: Finding out whether or not a bank robber is guilty since he can't remember robbing the bank. Mark uses his sleuthing skills and his power, the ability to look back through time, to gather clues and evidence, but discovers he may have opened a whole other can of worms. Mark Whelms P.I. has been an idea I've been struggling to put together for a few years. First it started off as an idea for a short film, a murder-mystery/comedy about a killer who uses toxic silly string (strange, I know)
